The Freshman Engineering Program – Opening in Fall 2007

The Freshman Engineering Program is designed to establish the foundation for the academic and professional success of new students entering the College of Engineering by:
v Delivering to them appropriate educational content so that they can move on to a discipline-specific College of Engineering undergraduate program,
v Facilitating the development of their academic skills so that they understand the workload, professionalism, and ethics required to succeed in a rigorous academic environment, and
v Providing them with academic, career, and personal advising in a proactive manner.

The Freshman Engineering Program includes an Academic Program and a Student Services Program.

In the Freshman Engineering Academic Program, new engineering students take a common set of courses for one year. Upon successfully completing this program, students move on to a discipline-specific undergraduate program within the College of Engineering.

The Freshman Engineering Student Services Program provides proactive support to new engineering students through summer orientation, peer mentoring, tutoring, academic and career advising, personal counseling, and academic success strategy training. The Freshman Engineering Center, to be located on the third floor of the southeast wing of Engineering Hall, is the home of the Student Services Program.
