Scanning Acoustic Microscopy (SAM)

Among its other uses, the Sonix Model UHR2000 Scanning Acoustic Microscope (SAM) at HiDEC allows non-destructive observation of bonding interfaces by using reflections of ultra high frequency sound waves to image the inner structure of samples.  HiDEC staff provide can provide training or assist with image capture, depending on what works best for a project or client.  Available traducers include 15mHz, 75mHz, and 110mHz.

Cross Sectioning

Users at the Center have full access to our cross sectioning capability, which includes resin casting, cut-off, and manual or automated polishing. A specially fitted microscope for digital capture of cross section images is also available.
