Becoming an engineer has never been a walk in the park. It is more like a walk across continental U.S. It seems to take forever, is sometimes tedious, but is always rewarding in the extreme. You get to meet lots of new people, see lots of new sights and get exposed to different ways of thinking. The great part about college though is that overall you get to do slightly less walking after 4 years of going to class and you get to keep all your stuff with you, nevertheless though it is a journey.

It has often been said that the biggest step on any journey is the first step and that is exactly how we feel about your first year and especially your first semester in college. That is why the U of A College of Engineering initiated a peer mentoring program to help you on this first step.

The Peer Mentoring Program is here to help you get through the first semester by doing several things:

  • Guide you through the transition from high school to college
  • Teach you all the things that they don’t talk about it class
  • Show you how to plan out your future and get it started
  • Give you someone to talk to that knows exactly what you are going through

We manage to do all these things by pairing you up with a senior engineering student that mentors you through your first semester or entire first year.

You and your mentor meet once a week and talk about topics that covers the entire range of the college experience; everything from classes and professors to managing a social life and where you are going to live next year.
