A Jewel of a Fellowship

National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science (GEM)

The College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas is one of only 90 schools in the nation certified by GEM, the National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science.

Why should this matter to you?

Each year, GEM awards more than 120 fellowships to minority students to pursue graduate degrees – both master's and doctoral -- in engineering at certified schools.

These fellowships include:

  • complete funding of all costs associated with your first year of graduate school, including a living stipend that you can spend at your discretion. Are you eligible?

You are eligible to apply if you have the following:

  • To pursue a master's degree, you need a 2.8 cumulative undergraduate GPA.
  • To pursue a doctoral degree, you need a 3.0 cumulative GPA while pursuing and receiving your master's degree.
  • You need to be a member of a minority group including American Indian, African American, Latino, Puerto Rican or other Hispanic American.

Founded in 1976, GEM brings together the nation's leading technological companies and government agencies as well as the nation's most prestigious universities. The National GEM Consortium is a nonprofit corporation with more than 2,400 alumni of its M.S. Engineering, Ph.D. Engineering and Ph.D. Science fellowship programs.
