Volunteer Opportunities

The University of Arkansas, and especially the College of Engineering, are characterized by a tradition of service and giving back.  As an alumnus, you have the unique opportunity to lend a hand to the College, its faculty, and especially its students.  Here are some ideas for you to consider as you think about how you might want to participate in the College's continuing tradition of service to the school and its mission:

  • Become an Engineering Alumni Ambassador in your community and help introduce prospective students to the discipline of Engineering.  By sharing your own story about becoming an engineer, you will help to educate young middle- and high school students about what it means to choose engineering as a career.  Your experience can provide a critical model to students who simply need a little encouragement to understand how the study of engineering can open up a world of opportunity.  The University of Arkansas' student recruitment team will be glad to work with you on how to become an Engineering Alumni Ambassador.  If you would like more information, please email EngrAlum@uark.edu and a member of the Engineering recruitment team will be happy to email you information about being an Alumni Ambassador.  They will also provide a phone number where you can reach a recruitment staff member to talk about what being an Engineering Alumni Ambassador involves.

  • Hire a Razorback Engineer.  Each year, the College of Engineering graduates hundreds of exceptionally talented and hard-working engineers from all our seven disciplines.  Ensure your company is participating in our semi-annual “Engineering Expo” job fairs.  Does your company or division hire co-op students for semester- and summer-long work projects?  If not, request information on how to get started.  Ask about how your company can join the College of Engineering’s Corporate Partners Program - a special package of services for companies that provide an “inside track” to the best and brightest engineering students the College has to offer.  Email EngrAlum@uark.edu for more information on how to participate in any of these programs today.

  • Address current students as a Guest Speaker on campus.  Each semester there are numerous opportunities for graduates to address current engineering students here on campus on a range of topics.  Current students are hungry for information about how to strategize for their first job out of school; what to expect a career in engineering to be like; how best to prepare to compete in the national and international marketplace for competitive engineering jobs; and many other topics our alumni can address with their own experience and expertise.  There is also a special need for engineering alumnae to share their insights and experience with current students who can benefit from models of success in engineering.  If you might be interested in speaking to current students please email EngrAlum@uark.edu to request more information.

  • Mention how the University of Arkansas was helpful to you.  The simplest and easiest way for you to support the College of Engineering may very well be the most effective way, too: word-of-mouth advertising.  Whether in a discussion with colleagues or clients, or in talking with a prospective student, or even in speaking to the press, consider mentioning how the University of Arkansas’ College of Engineering made a difference in your life.  You might be surprised at how powerful your simple endorsement of the College and the remarkable teaching you experienced there may influence others’ ideas about the value of a University of Arkansas education!
